Ash and The Matadors
Ash & The Matadors were formed in 2009. Spencer Morgan (bass), Jared Smith (guitar) and Simon Barr (drummer) would clamber into a room at a London St flat filled with bottles and cigarette butts to jam Ash's original songs. This continued when three of the four members moved into an historic brick mansion in St Clair. After many nights of jamming the band had their 1st gig at The Cellars Bar where they met the Sweetman of Dunedin - Driech. The band continued gigging, often with the wonderful Ian Sweetman offering his live sound expertise. It seemed only natural that when Ian said he wanted to lend the band his PA gear to record tracks they snapped up the opportunity. Hence the release of their first EP, "The Mansion Tapes" in July, 2010. Ash & The Matadors had a band change with Simon Barr (drums) leaving and Glen Kellet (also in Midnight Kitchen) joining. Ash & The Matadors are in the process of releasing their debut album, An Evening Echo and embarking on a two week South Island Tour.
